The Story of a Long and Sad Song / Homa Tavassoli’s Review of “Song of Granite ”

The Story of a Long and Sad Song / Homa Tavassoli’s Review of “Song of Granite ”

In the genre of war in cinema of Iran, “the lost strait”, is a unique movie because there aren’t any suspenseful story and dramatic characters about the events of the war in it and no particular ideology is promoted to find propaganda as in many Iranian war movies, nor even that anti-war to reflect the special political view. The film merely shares the experience of war atmosphere with viewers. The story of the film is about the arrival and abrupt return of those who are on the front line of the war that were on the final days of the Iran-Iraq War while leaving for absence. This film shows the process in four sections: Compassionate tranquility for the first half an hour of movie, the surprise tension of the enemy’s initial attack, temporary peace before entering the Strait, and finally the main story which is the wandering stressful and bloody situation. The characters of the story are removed one after the other to prove that how the “reality of war” goes beyond the “imagination of the artist.” also in the war film that is adapted from a lesser-known fact in the history of the Iran-Iraq war.
