Summer of the Same Year Hits the Silver Screen

Summer of the Same Year Hits the Silver Screen

Press conference of “Summer of the Same Year” held on Friday, February 2nd in Milad Tower attended by the cast and crew of the film.
At the beginning of this meeting, Ali Oji, the producer said: “Our burden is always on the shoulders of the media people, and I thank you.” I hope you like the movie.
Addressing the audience the director of the movie, Mahmoud Kalari said: I used to be on the other side of the camera. At the beginning , let me apologize you for the bad sound of the movie in the hall. Today is the second day of the festival and I hope that the organizers add a bit more order to the screenings so that the films can be seen much better. At the 20th minute of the movie, people were still walking in the hall. I haven’t seen anything like this at least in different world festivals and people are not allowed to enter the hall after screening starts.
“If people do not understand the first narration of the film, they will not understand the whole story. I tried to be a storyteller in this film; Just like my grandmother. I tried to tell a story for the audience for 90 minutes because storytelling has lost its color in our cinema”, he stated.
As for film’s one-shot production and memory-oriented nature and its slow rhythm he explained: We had no plan for slow or fast rhythm of the film. Based on 4 decades of experience of communicating with different people and learning from each of them, I thought that a film should be made in relation to the subject and the fast and slow rhythm depends on the perception of the audience. Hear it from me, any manipulation hurts the film. The film, which has a slow nature, does not speed up in any way, and the film takes rhythm with the theme and content of each sequence. In the end, I think the film has its own rhythm.
Pointing to the destruction of the ancient house at the end of the film Kalari said: the old part of the city is falling apart giving way to an inauthentic architecture. I was born and raised in Tehran and my family roots go back to the north of Tehran. Nima Yoshij was a fellow citizen with my grandfather, and a poem by Nima was the main theme of my film.
Samira Hasanpour, the actress of this film, said: I would like to say at the beginning that I am a lucky person because I had the chance to be in front of Mr. Kalari’s camera for the first time in cinema. I got my award where he was a jury and now I was able to act in his film. Playing the role of this introverted character made me separate from the rest of my roles.
Fariba Naderi, the actress said: “The story of the movie happens in the past, but today’s examples of such a character still exist. Women with a better financial status are still kind and have other characteristics. The character of this movie doesn’t know how to talk easily and his childhood complexes have slowly taken root in her. She emphasized: Mr. Kalari is one of the great men in the history of Iranian cinema and I enjoyed every moment of this movie.
Reflecting on the reason for collaborating Ali Oji, the producer said: I grew up in commercial cinema, but my taste led me in this direction. I have a character who sometimes sacrifices himself for another character to make such a movie. I have even acted in a reality show to earn money for this project. He continued: every moment being with Mr. Kalari was like a classroom for the whole group. Every frame of this movie is calculated and he drives the dialogues forward obsessively. Let me also say that Mr. Kalari as the director and Mr. Kalari as the cameraman are two different characters and both are unique.
The story of the film is about finding the jewelry thief in an old and superstitious way when an immature boy named Ata goes to a palmist to find and identify the thief of his aunt’s jewelry.
