Wojciech Unolt: Cultural Programs Deepen Iran-Poland Ties

Wojciech Unolt, Poland’s chargé d’affaires in Tehran, says Iranian filmmaker and Oscar-winner Asghar Farhadi shows universal issues and concerns in his films.

Wojciech Unolt, who paid a visit to the 37th Fajr International Film Festival on Friday, said movies and other cultural programs have helped deepen cultural ties between Iran and Poland: One of the ways to improve our ties is cultural exchanges. Poland’s film week in Tehran is one these great opportunities.

He said tourism industry could help strengthen bilateral relations in a host of fields: Iran should promote its tourism industry and allow in more tourists. The Polish have no problem visiting Iran. Iran is an attractive and amazing country for tourists from all over the world. They like to come here because they face no restrictions.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the charge d’affaire’s of Poland said Iran’s cinema is now more into comedy, which is fine. However, as many Europeans know Asghar Farhadi, they follow his movies, such as About Eli, A Separation, and The Salesman. Although Farhadi talks about certain problems in Iranian society, these issues are in fact universal.

Presided over by award-winning writer and director Seyyed Reza Mirkarimi, the 37th Fajr International Film Festival is underway in Tehran until April 26. For further information, please visit our website at www.fajriff.com.
