Don’t blame the festival
Tahmaseb Solhjoo
Holding the Fajr International Film Festi-
val during the COVID-19 pandemic is very
good and rewarding, and reminds us of
enduring difficulties. Currently, we aren’t
in a socially balanced situation to offer
a solution. I hope that after the festival,
those who oppose the festival and the
cinema itself will not accuse it of spread-
ing COVID-19, and will not challenge the
organizers, because the festival is going
to run in a completely sterile space and
shouldn’t be criticized. Fajr National Film
Festival was held, and nothing bad hap-
pened. We can also have the Fajr Inter-
national Film Festival safely.
On the other hand, I hope COVID-19 will
be eradicated soon, so that cinema survive
as our most important cultural and social
phenomenon, which pulls people out of
their homes to watch movies in movie
theaters. Cinema has been the victim of
COVID-19 pandemic for two years. Coro-
navirus has infected humans and affect-
ed cinema, and it is a pity to lose cinema,
because it is the spiritual, psychological
and cultural need of all human societies,
especially our society. People create the
most beautiful and fascinating moments
of their life in movie theaters, not inside
their homes. May the festival be a perfect
opportunity for cinema lovers.
