Emphasis on Education at the 34th Fajr International Film Festival: A festival for the Youth

“One of the main goals of this edition of the festival is to focus on education and to increase the knowledge power of the audience”, said the scientific and educational director of the 34th Fajr International Film Festival (FIFF).

In an interview with the public relations office of the FIFF, Dr Rouhollah Hoseini, the scientific and educational director of the festival referred to the strong emphasis Reza Mirkarimi, the Director of the festival, has placed on regarding the festival as a specialized and technical event and holding it based on scientific criteria. “Thus, it makes sense to have Iran’s National Cinema School as the executive section in educational and investigative affairs of this edition of the festival”, he added.

Elaborating on the potentials existing at the festival which can help improve the scientific aspect of the event, Hoseyni stated that these potentials, which were mentioned right from the start and with respect to the aforementioned policy, can mainly be found in student volunteers, Darolfonoun and university screenings.

According to Hosseini, “regarding the first area, it has been decided to select 50 volunteers from among the student cinephiles to provide help with the foreign guests, the workshops, translations and interpretations under the supervision of the director of the ceremonies. Regarding the Darolfonoun section, we are going to help Maziar Miri with the workshops and the process of finding talents, and regarding the university screenings, the University of Tehran is hosting several foreign film screenings at this edition”.

Referring to his responsibility at the festival as related to his duties at the Cinema School, the executive director of Iran’s National Cinema School pointed out, “there will certainly be workshops and classes at the educational section of the festival held by both Iranian and non-Iranian masters, for which the planning is being done by Mr. Miri and Mr. Shojanouri”.

In response to a question asking whether the educational plans would help more with the involvement of young cinephiles or of the students majoring in cinema-related fields, he stated, “interest is definitely an important factor, but it is not enough. As the Director of the festival regards it, the scientific and educational aspect is more emphasized, and therefore the presence of university students will be more focused on. However, at Darolfonoun section, age becomes an important factor as the goal is to find young talents and scientifically invest in them”.

The 34th edition of Fajr International Film Festival will be held from April 20th to April 25th, 2016 in Charsou Cineplex, under the supervision of the well-known Iranian filmmaker, Mr. Reza Mirkarimi, who is also the Managing Director of Khaneh Cinema.
