FIFF Opens with Restored Abbas Kiarostami Classic

The 43rd Fajr International Film Festival opened on Wednesday, 26 November with the restored version of “Through the Olive Trees” by renowned Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami. The film was screened at the Honar Shahr Aftab Cineplex in Shiraz

This year’s edition features several newly restored classics of Iranian cinema, among which “Through the Olive Trees” stands out as a major highlight. Originally released in 1994, the film won the Silver Hugo at the Chicago International Film Festival. Kiarostami not only directed the work but also wrote and produced it.

The film explores the off-screen bond between the actors who played the newlyweds in Kiarostami’s “And Life Goes On” (1992). The festival’s main poster features a behind-the-scenes photo of Kiarostami from the same film, while five official posters for this year’s edition were designed using images from “Through the Olive Trees”.

The festival, with Rouhollah Hosseini serving as Festival Director, will run until 3 December.
