From Kiarostami to Tarkovsky: Restored Films Take Center Stage at FIFF

A total of 12 restored films, including eight Iranian titles and four international works, will be screened in the “Restorations” section of the 43rd Fajr International Film Festival.

The restored Iranian films featured in this section are “Through the Olive Trees” (1994) directed by Abbas Kiarostami, “The Love-stricken” (1992) by Ali Hatami, “Unruled Paper” (2002) directed by Nasser Taghvai, “The Pear Tree” (1998) by Dariush Mehrjui, “Here, a Shining Light” (2003) directed by Reza Mirkarimi, “Iran Is My Land” (1999) by Parviz Kimiavi, “Pomegranate and Cane” (1989) directed by Saeed Ebrahimifar, and “Frosty Roads” (1985) by Masoud Jafari Jozani.

In addition, four restored international films will be screened in this section: “Ivan’s Childhood” (1962) directed by Andrei Tarkovsky, “Voyage to Cythera” (1984) and “Landscape in the Mist” (1988) by Theo Angelopoulos, and “About Dry Grasses” (2023) directed by Nuri Bilge Ceylan.

The “Restorations” section has been included in the festival program with the aim of preserving and revitalizing Iran’s cinematic heritage, as well as providing audiences with the opportunity to watch restored versions of landmark films from Iranian and world cinema.

The 43rd Fajr International Film Festival, directed by Seyed Rouhollah Hosseini, is taking place in Shiraz from November 26 to December 3, 2025.
